Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. More than just a bout of the blues, depression isn't a weakness and you can't simply "snap out" of, it may require long-term treatment. It is one of the most common and most misunderstood illnesses faced by people today.

The causes of depression could be biological which could be running in the family or psychological where an individual tends to blame themselves for the situation around them or Environmental factor such as losing a loved one or losing the hope of the future by the sudden traumatic event that they experience.

Individuals who suffer from depression often tend to isolate oneself as they lose interest in everything and find it extremely difficult to interact with others. Being absorbed with their internal world makes them believe that they are not important to others is one of the major thought process of depression.

According to World Health Organisation , more than 264 million people suffer from depression and on an average , 1 in 7 people in India is most likely to suffer from depression, and ranks second in the statistics in the suffering of depression in the world.
